A pair of jackals has come to our zoo

A male jaсkal named Bir and a female named Iki have arrived to Animal Island. Both are 7 years old, they are very active, playful, and quick to adapt.
Those jackals are a present from Aeroflot company. They were a part of sleuth breeding program aimed to create a breed of herding laikas and jackals. This sleuth breed was developed in 70s by Klim Sulimov specifically for performing complicated searches. Nowadays those sleuths provide aviation security. They have sharp nose and good orientation response (as jackals do, too), and they're also low-maintenance, tolerant to cold, trainable, and controllable, like laikas. Sulimov's dogs often are more succesful in looking for explosives than equipment is.

We hope you will love our new residents!
