Baltic Grey Seals Have Arrived at the Zoo!
06.11.2015Three Baltic grey seals have arrived in Moscow fr om Riga Zoo. There are two females and a male, all of them born last winter. They are rather small yet, their weight is about 70 kilos; adult males can weigh up to 300 kilos, and females – about 100-150 kilos each. Grey seals reach sexual maturity at the age of 4-5 years. Our Grey seals are very friendly, they found good contact with the keepers and already eat fish off the keepers’ hands. You can see them in the basin, to the right of the pond at the Old territory – in the enclosure wh ere our sea lion was kept earlier. Baltic grey seal is found on both shores of the North Atlantic Ocean. In Russia, they can be met on the Baltic Sea and Barentsev Sea shores. Grey seals feed on fish. They are included into the Red Book of Russia.
