In 2004, the Eurasian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EARAZA) was granted a status of Association Member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). The WAZA membership status implies that all EARAZA member-zoos should strive to follow fundamental principles of this global organization. WAZA defines the philosophy and strategy of the world zoo and aquarium community in the strategic document «The World Zoo and Aquarium Conservation Strategy» (WZACS). In particularly, the WZACS declares: «The major goal of zoos and aquariums will be to integrate all aspects of their work with conservation activities. The fundamental elements of each organization’s structure will be the values of sustainability and conservation, and social and environmental responsibility. These values will permeate all areas of their work and will be understood and promoted by all those working within the WAZA network». Continued
